Vivid Sydney illuminations
May 22, 2015 - June 8, 2015
Vivid Sydney is a fabulous light and music festival in the largest Australian city and the biggest festival of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. It features the lighting of the Sydney Opera House, St Mary’s Cathedral, the Conservatorium of Music and some other showplaces transforming them into a spectacular show. Great tourist attraction takes place since 27 May to 20 June 2010 and recurÑ‹ each year. Watching the photos of the Vivid Sydney illuminations wakes the desire to live in that city.
The Sydney Opera House illumination
The illuminations is made by large-scale projection company The Electric. The company’s team faced challenges aplenty. There’s the House’s sheer size for starters, plus the distance they needs to project over.
The best way to project onto the Opera House is from opposite at the Overseas Passenger Terminal but that’s a distance of 450 metres — it’s not normally a distance you associate with projecting video.
We can also prevent light entering the building through the glazing — that’s important because the glazing is against the granite stairs inside and you don’t want to blind people as they’re coming down from the Northern Foyer.

Besides the building projections there are different bright street installations and live art performances. All this really shows that there’s nothing like Australia as it was said in the travel commercial.
